We recommend to drill mix the stain with a paddle mixer and brush the stain however if necessary, it can be thinned with mineral spirits. 1/2 pint mineral spirits to 1 gallon of Weatherseal Stain. If you choose to spray, use a heavy-duty airless sprayer using 0.15 -0.17 tips.

Note: Use CPR log cleaner and brightener to clean the logs. Other products you might want to consider is our Armor-Guard prior to staining (has to be used on bare wood only) this is a borate powder. For application use our (#F5116) 4 3/4" Wooster Bravo Stainer paint brush or (#F-5119) 4 Inch Wooster Oil Stain paint brush for excellent results with all exterior or interior oil based stains. Also you might want to add Bug Juice, an added insecticide for crawling insects, or M-1, an added mildewcide for interior or exterior, which inhibits Mold & Mildew in coatings.

WeatherSeal is thick and rich and easy to apply. Formulated especially for log homes, WeatherSeal can be used over all types of outdoor wood surfaces where a natural wood appearance is desired.

Do not apply WeatherSeal to wood over 18% moisture content. Applying two coats of WeatherSeal on wood with over 18% moisture content will create an environment where mold and mildew can grow beneath the surface of the wood finish creating peeling and lifting over time. Apply one coat of only of WeatherSeal over green wood or wood that has moisture content of 18% or more.

WeatherSeal may be applied over cured latex caulks without harm to the caulk. If possible, caulk first before staining with WeatherSeal. However , if applying a latex caulk or synthetic chinking over a WeatherSeal coated surface, lightly sand over the areas of WeatherSeal that will come in contact with the latex caulk or chinking to insure good adhesion of the caulk.

Stain is excellent. Have applied it at numerous times in 13 years for my log home built in 2004. The only negative comment I have is I have to touch my log home up with it annually. When sleet or hail hits my log home it continually chips down to bare wood and stain flakes off , Every year I have to restain most of my home that gets hit with bad winter weather. Any advice or assistance from others greatly appreciated. I am getting much older now and it is getting harder each year to keep restaining. Thank you!

Built a new log home for a lake house in 2012, used two coats of the WeatherSeal Oil Base to stain the exterior. The Product was easy application, exterior appearance even after five years is still outstanding! In keeping with the Manufacturers recommended log home maintenance applying a new coat (single coat) this year. GREAT PRODUCT! Would highly recommend it to all log home Owners

We used WeatherSeal Exterior Wood Finish in the Autumn color on our log home 1 year ago and it still looks great. When we opened the can it looked a little more orange then we thought it should be but after applying it looked beautiful. Of course it will darken over time. It is very thick but easy to apply. We applied with brushes and it blended great,no lines or streaks. I would recommend this product to anyone that is considering staining their log home.

Very dissatisfied with Thompsons product. Peeling and white color when wet. I now have to remove what is left on porch before re staining with oil base stain. because Thompsons did not last for two years my porch became weather damaged and the color is uneven. Again, VERY dissatisfied?

This water-based blend of siloxane resins increases paver service-life by providing protection against weather- and water-borne staining and soiling. It also helps pavers resist damage from destructive de-icing salts.

The most common outdoor wood coating is an exterior-grade penetrating stain. These water-repellent preservatives include a mildewcide, and some products contain ultraviolet light absorbers that protect from sun exposure. Available in both oil- and water-based formulations, the resins penetrate wood pores to provide pigment and block out the damaging effect of weather while allowing the natural woodgrain and texture to shine through.

If there is a buildup of old stains on the deck, then you may need to remove it with something stronger than an oxygen bleach cleaner. Stain strippers are more caustic, but they remove most weathered stains in a single application. Small, stubborn spots of stain can then be removed with a hand sander once the deck has dried.

For both horizontal and vertical structures, brushing is the best method for stain/sealer application because the bristles push the product evenly into the woodgrain to increase absorption. Using a sprayer or roller can apply the stain more quickly, but both of these methods leave much of the stain on the surface without adequate penetration into the pores. This superficial product can wear away unevenly, so you should still back-brush it into the woodgrain for the most consistent appearance and best protection.
